Data Recovery from Any Tape Backup Format
The most important aspect of data recovery is that you get your files back and can continue working. To this end it is vital to be able to read the data that is stored on the tape, but as most backups are a proprietary storage format that encapsulates your data, there is often additional decoding work required to turn the data on the tape back into your critical files.
Many backup applications offer a cross-platform backup environment, so cannot be be defined absolutely in terms of being a Windows, UNIX, mainframe, MAC or other format. The backup formats below have been categorised my the platform they are predominantly used with. This list is far from exhaustive and represents a portion of the tape backup formats Altirium engineers have successfully recovered data from over the years.
