Shipping small volume items to Altirium

The advice given on this page is for shipping small quantities of hard drives or computer backup tapes to Altirium

Before You Begin

1. Before starting the procedure, please contact Altirium regarding your data recovery / data conversion requirements. In doing so you will be issued with a reference number that will be used to track your case.
2. If you have received a Quotation form or Authorisation form from Altirium, please read through the information and complete any details requested. The more information you can give regarding your data recovery requirements will assist the engineers when it comes to performing the data recovery procedure.

Packaging your Hard drive ready for shipping

This section assumes that the hard drive that requires data recovery, has been removed from the computer or laptop. If you are not confident to do this then either seek advice or ship the entire computer unit to us. Only the processing unit that contains the hard drive is required. We do not need the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

If the hard drive is an external USB or eSATA disk then it is not necessary to remove the drive from its casing.

STEP 1. ANTI-STATIC PRECAUTIONS

Your hard drive is an electronic sensitive device and as such is susceptible to damage by static electricity.

WARNING: Never touch the electronic circuitry of the hard drive as static electric discharge can damage vital components.

To ensure no further unnecessary damage occurs to the hard drive, the drive should be suitably packaged using anti-static packaging.  Anti-static bags are the silver bags that electronic components are usually shipped in.

STEP 2. SHOCK PROTECTION

Whether you are shipping your hard drive to us via a next day courier service, same day courier service or delivering the hard drive in person. The hard drive should be packed in a suitably sized box. The size of the box will be determined by the size and number of items being shipped however the box should have adequate space around all the sides and top and bottom of the hard drive for a suitable amount of soft packing material such as bubble wrap or polystyrene packing to fit.

Ensure you have added sufficient soft packing to prevent the drive from moving around in the box and that the drive will not come in to direct contact with the side of the box. Once the hard drive has left your premises, it will be in transit with many other packages and will be susceptible to being bumped and bounced around.

STEP 3. ENCLOSE NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION

If you have received a quotation or authorisation form from us. Please enclose the completed form along with your media. This will allow us to quickly process your items when they arrive. We would also suggest enclosing your own contact details within the package. If for any reason the external labelling becomes detached from your package, there should be adequate information to identify the origin of the item in case it needs to be returned.

STEP 4. SEAL THE BOX

When you are sure all the necessary items have been placed in the box. Securely seal the box, ensuring all opening, top and bottom are adequately taped.

STEP 5. LABEL THE PACKAGE

Many of the courier services allow you to produce shipping labels to attach to your package. The package should be addressed to:

STEP 6. DESPATCH YOUR PACKAGE TO ALTIRIUM

There are many ways to get you hard drive or backup tape media to us. You can deliver you media in-person or via some form of courier service. Below are some links to UK courier services.

NOTE: If you wish bring your drive to us in person and are planning to use a SATNAV device to locate us. We suggest you use the postcode HP18 0XN rather than our postal address as this will provide you with a more accurate route to the front gate of the Venture Park.
